For owners of Phat and Slim PSP's alike, a new Firmware has been released by Dark Alex. Importantly, a bug fix in the form of 4.01 M33-2 followed almost instantly, and, FOR PHAT OWNERS ONLY a 1.50 Kernel add-on was also released, to support homebrew based on this firmware. A good example of this is the PSP VLC binaries which rely on 1.50 Kernel Add-ons. In this post I will show you how, and where to get the firmwares, thanks to the amazing Dark Alex, and the Exophase forums and also some good links to easy install guides.

Esteemed homebrew developer Dark_AleX has released PSP custom firmware 4.01 M33. In addition to minor bug fixes, this edition of the M33 firmware series of course brings 4.01 kernel support, complete with multi-language support for Recovery Mode. Instructions can be found in the included readme on how to translate the recovery text to your native language. And no, this release does not include in-XMB recovery or savestate support. As Alek noted last week, those enhancements are still planned but will likely be added in a forthcoming update.
As usual, the firmware update can be applied directly via Network Update if you are running a previous release from 3.80 M33 and onward, or by following the manual installation instructions below, provided that you have a homebrew capable PSP. * Extract the archive. * Copy included UPDATE folder to X:/PSP/GAME * Place the official firmware 4.01 update EBOOT, named as 401.PBP, in the newly created UPDATE folder * Begin installation from the Game menu.
To add the 1.50 Firmware Support - PHAT ONLY! To update to 4.01 M33-2 (Bugfixes) This update includes some minor bug fixes, and recovery menu setting updates. Here is the changelog: - Nids resolver: Fixed scePowerGetCpuClockFrequency issue. This is the same bug that happened in 3.80 M33-1, it won't happen again - Fixes recovery problems that have apperared in prior version (incorrect position of back string in language others than english, enable, and disabled strings not translated in plugins, hide pic0+pic1 couldn't be changed, language file in flash1 wasn't working..
- Spanish recovery translation typos fixed.
Likewise, download it now! To install, make sure you have 4.01 M33 installed before proceeding. Download the archive, and copy the "UPDATE" folder to "ms0:/PSP/GAME" and run the application. Download PSP Custom Firmware 4.01 M33-2 Update
