As an avid Eee PC user, I have recently upgraded my Eee 1000H to Windows Vista Ultimate, the Atom processor, and 2Gb Ram, is up to the task, and Vista works surprisingly well on this netbook, as is evidenced by many websites and their reviews. One hiccup comes as a result of the updated OS install though, and that is the ACPI driver, or lack thereof, meaning Vista users cannot adjust the volume and other important functions with the function keys, as well as getting some annoying messages on boot as well. Read on for the important and groundbreaking work of Eeeuser.com forums member Slevin, who has asked me to publish his findings here....
Slevin's words best describe the issue and solution: ' When using Windows Vista with the ASUS Eee PC the ACPI Service will fail with the messages "Missing Audio Driver, audio hot key is void" and "Missing VGA Driver, Display switch hot key is void". And the volume hotkeys won't function correctly. The Asus Eee PC ACPI Service (AsAcpiSvr.exe) was made for Windows XP. It had to be changed to load the Vista Drivers and change the master volume of Windows Vista. ' His driver is now in revision 5, working with several varieties of Vista drivers. It can be downloaded from His Website Here, instructions are as follows: 1) Open the Task-Manager and close the following tasks in the same order: "AsEPCMon.exe", "AsTray.exe" and "AsAcpiSvr.exe" 2) Copy the files "Fix05.dll" and "AsAcpiSvr.exe" from this ZIP-file to "C:\Program Files\EeePC\ACPI" NOTE: The path may be different for you ! 3) Restart your PC Here is an install video guide from user custardk on Youtube, for the visual learners: Thanks to Slevin for making Windows Vista 'totally' usable for us Eee owners. *I have only personally tested this on an Eee 1000H. YMMV.
